Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

While both provide support during childbirth, a midwife is a medical professional who can deliver babies and provide medical care. A doula, on the other hand, offers non-medical support to ensure comfort, reduce anxiety, and help with decision-making.

When should I hire a doula?

It’s a good idea to hire a doula early in your pregnancy (around 12-20 weeks), but it’s never too late to get one. If you’re considering a doula, it’s helpful to start the process early so you can get to know them and feel comfortable with their support.

Do I really need a doula?

Many people find that having a doula can make a positive impact on their birth experience. Doulas help provide reassurance, comfort techniques, and advocate for your birth preferences. However, it’s not essential; it depends on your needs and preferences.

Do I have to follow a certain birth plan with a doula?

No, doulas are non-judgmental and flexible. They support you in whatever birth plan you choose, whether you want a natural birth, an epidural, or any other type of intervention. Their job is to help you feel empowered and informed in making your choices.
